Test percentage = Earned points ÷ Possible points × 100After-test average = Previous average × (1 − Test weight) + Test percentage × Test weight. Enter weight as a percentage; the calculation converts it to a decimal.
With 20 questions and three missed answers, you earned 17 out of 20, or 85%. With 42 points earned out of 50, you earned 84%, even if the paper had only 12 questions. The test grade calculator keeps those units separate so question counts do not accidentally replace rubric points.
Course impact answers a different question. If your earlier average is 90% and this test earns 70% at a 10% course weight, the combined result is 88%. The test itself is 20 points below your previous average, but it moves the course result down only two percentage points.
This example uses Penn State’s examination policy to illustrate why assessment weight matters. Its rule permits qualifying quizzes and narrowly limited tests worth no more than 10% during the last week of classes. That is a specific scheduling rule, not evidence that every school limits every quiz to 10%.
A classroom percentage is also different from a standardized scaled score. TEA publishes conversion tables for assessment reporting; a straight percentage does not reproduce those scales. Use the official table for the applicable assessment when you need that kind of result.
